We’re highlighting three states that have made significant changes to paid sick leave policies as of January 1, 2024 – California, Illinois and Minnesota! Here’s the scoop…
California expands its paid sick leave – Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an amendment to SB 616 back in October. What’s different?
Illinois has the PAID LEAVE FOR ALL WORKERS ACT (PLAWA) signed into legislation by Gov. JB Pritzker. Employees can earn up to 5 days of leave from work each year, for any reason.
Minnesota grants more workers EARNED SICK AND SAFE TIME (ESST). Employees who work at least 80 hours in a year for an employer in Minnesota can accrue up to 48 hours, or six days of ‘sick or safe’ leave. Keep in mind that this doesn’t apply to independent contractors, but does include part-time and temporary workers. This time may be used if…
Although the US does not have federally mandated paid sick leave, more states and private employers have started including this type of leave and expanding their current paid sick leave due to the rise of seasonal illnesses.
Approximately 18 states currently have some type of paid sick leave policies on the books. While ExactHire is not a legal expert, we do try to stay up-to-date on all things employment related. Make sure to check out your state’s legislative website or SHRM for the most up-to-date information.

Next week, you will notice that the new Form I-9 has been uploaded to your site automatically, and your packets are updated as well! To keep it simple, the form works exactly the same as the previous version, but if you have questions please reach out to us for assistance.

Today, USCIS released a statement that a revised version of Form-I 9 will be published August 1st. On the form’s release date of August 1st, we will begin development on the new Form I-9.
Once it’s ready to go, and incorporated into OnboardCentric, your site and packets will be updated automatically with the new version. This will happen prior to the October 31st expiration date of the current version of Form I-9.
